Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia , or enlarged breast tissue in males, may result from a number of endocrine and metabolic disturbances, genetic disorders, cancers, and use of certain medications. It is usually a benign, or non-cancerous, condition. Up to 70% of adolescent males have some breast development during puberty secondary to hormonal fluctuation, yet 75% of these cases resolve within 2 years of onset without treatment. Following a thorough workup, gynecomastia can be treated with liposuction, direct excision, or a combination of the two, often with minimal scarring.
